Community Outreach

The Texas Entrepreneurs Association is dedicated to serving the community we work and live in. TTEA plans to make a focused effort to help provide entrepreneurs in underserved communities with the tools and resources they need to make their dreams come true.

Cesar Chavez High School Business Plan Competition

TTEA partnered with Cesar Chavez High School students to create unique business plans to compete against each other in the 1st Annual Cesar Chavez Business Plan Competition. The students at Chavez worked diligently with their mentors before and after school for 10-weeks to complete their plans. Several inspiring ideas were submitted, and the feedback from the students was very positive. Each student that participated will receive a “2010 TTEA Business Plan Competition” padfolio and a t-shirt (designed by one of the teams as a part of their plan) while winning teams received suite-level Astros tickets and over $1,200 in prizes. TTEA Entrepreneur Exchange

If you or someone you know is starting a business and would like support in this effort, please contact TTEA (info@ttea.org) or engage with us through the TTEA EntXchangE. Our members are dedicated to serving entrepreneurs and have expertise in several of the major business disciplines including Law, Marketing, Finance and Accounting. We would be delighted to help you get your idea off the ground.

Kiva

Through your generous contributions, TTEA raised $4,170 – all of which will be donated to entrepreneurs through KIVA.

The two entrepreneurs featured below will receive the majority of their requested loan amounts from TTEA. The remainder of the funds will be donated in smaller amounts to numerous other entrepreneurs – we believe this allows our contribution to make the largest possible impact.

Thank you for your help in supporting such a great cause. Micro-finance is an effective method to support aspiring entrepreneurs in third world countries, improve their standard of living and contribute to the overall well-being of their communities.

Solmaz Quliyeva

Solmaz, 56, lives in Bilasuvar, Azerbaijan. She started her business in 1986 selling dairy products and calves for meat production. Solmaz would like to improve her business by using an $800 loan to purchase a cow for milking.

Halima Yuldasheva

Halima is a dynamic 55-year-old mother of three living in Shahrituz, Tajikistan. Halima began selling shoes eight years ago and has grown her business year after year. Her $750 loan will be used to purchase more merchandise to meet the demands of her clients.

Kiva

One of the organizations TTEA believes most strongly in is Kiva. Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world. On August 16th, TTEA is hosting a Bocce Ball Tournament and Charity Event in order to raise funds to support at least two entrepreneurs through Kiva. There are limited spots for the event and the tournament (and they are going fast) so make sure to reserve your spot today by e-mailing info@ttea.org or talking to a member of the executive committee. Please see the events portion of our website for more details about the event and how you can help.

TTEA is a strong supporter and contributor to Kiva as we believe ardently in the power of microloans in effecting real change. We encourage our members (and others) to check out their website and help Kiva make a difference!
